A large-scale forest fire continues to advance in the Picayune Strand State Forest, south of I-75 (Alligator Alley), in Collier County, prompting the evacuation of several nearby communities.

According to the latest update from the Florida Forest Service, the fire has burned 1,733 acres and is 60% contained. Authorities keep evacuation orders active while emergency teams continue working to control the flames.

The sectors still under evacuation include:

  • Stable Way
  • Newman Drive
  • Barton Gliba Drive
  • Benfield Road
  • Le Buff Road

Additionally, Beck Boulevard remains closed between Mannix Drive and Benfield Road, with access limited only to residents and emergency personnel.

Authorities have also warned drivers on I-75, especially between miles 95 and 100, due to the presence of smoke that could reduce visibility in seconds. The Florida Highway Patrol recommends driving with extreme caution, keeping low beams on, and reducing speed.

Winds continue to push smoke westward, which could create low visibility conditions in areas south of Collier Boulevard.

For affected families, a temporary shelter has been set up at the Golden Gate Community Center, located at 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, which also accepts pets.

Authorities indicated that this is a developing story and they will continue issuing updates as the situation evolves.
